Artist Statement:

Amelia Gunn-Dalby is a feminist artist who explores the dichotomy between attraction and repulsion to reclaim and liberate herself from society’s patriarchal power and gain autonomy over her own body. Rooted in psychoanalysis, her practice examines ideas of the monstrous archetype and explores vulnerability. Using natural materials, she creates sculptural works, sometimes with the inclusion of biological materials derived from the human body to challenge disgust. In her video work, Gunn-Dalby positions herself as the ‘monstrous archetype’ to break free from how society wishes her to behave. She creates experimental soundscapes to accompany both her sculptural and video works, to form immersive installations that attract visceral reactions.
